== Syntax ==

;x: X coordinate; 0 at the left edge of the map, 100 at the right edge of the map.
;y: Y coordinate; 0 at the top edge of the map, 100 at the bottom edge of the map.
;zone: {{SITENAME}} article title for this zone; usually the zone name, without "The " prefix.
;section: Optional zone map section for zones with multiple maps (e.g. instances).
;phase: Optional terrain phase, for zones with phased terrain (e.g. [[Gilneas (starting zone)|Gilneas]], [[Mount Hyjal]], [[Krasarang Wilds]]).
;old: Optional old map, used for articles that need to display an older map like [[Night Elf Mohawk]] which was available prior to ''Cataclysm''.
;link: Optional link to another article, used if the article named after the map redirects to a different article than anticipated. e.g. using the Gilneas maps but needs to be linked to [[Gilneas (starting zone)]] since [[Gilneas]] redirects to the kingdom article. Also useful for Classic articles such as [[Elwynn Forest]] and [[Elwynn Forest (Classic)]].

== Maps ==
Coords (and {{t|Zone Map}}) uses [[Special:PrefixIndex/File:VZ|VZ-maps]] to draw the blips on. A VZ-map is a file redirect to the [[:Category:Coordinate-safe maps|coordinate-safe map]] named using the name Blizzard gave to the map as found in the game files. VZ-map redirects should be created according to the following pattern:

Instances and select capital cities have multiple floors drawn as separate maps. As an example, [[Orgrimmar]] has the main map ([[:File:WorldMap-Orgrimmar.jpg|WorldMap-Orgrimmar.jpg]]) and the [[Cleft of Shadow]] ([[:File:WorldMap-Orgrimmar1.jpg|WorldMap-Orgrimmar1.jpg]]). These are accessed via the VZ-maps [[:File:VZ-Orgrimmar.jpg|VZ-Orgrimmar.jpg]] and [[:File:VZ-Orgrimmar-s1.jpg|VZ-Orgrimmar-s1.jpg]].

Blizzard is not always consistent as far as numbering is concerned, so look at the maps section of the main article for the zone to see how Blizzard decided to number the maps. [[Dalaran]], for instance, is drawn as [[:File:WorldMap-Dalaran.jpg|WorldMap-Dalaran.jpg]] (main map) and [[:File:WorldMap-Dalaran1.jpg|WorldMap-Dalaran1.jpg]] ([[Underbelly]]). As an exception, these maps have differently-named VZ-maps redirecting to them: [[:File:VZ-Dalaran.jpg|VZ-Dalaran.jpg]] points to the main map, whereas [[:File:VZ-Underbelly.jpg|VZ-Underbelly.jpg]] redirects to the Underbelly map. The standard [[:File:VZ-Dalaran-s1.jpg|VZ-Dalaran-s1.jpg]] VZ-map also work for the Underbelly.

Zones with phased terrains have a similar syntax. The [[Krasarang Wilds]] map ([[:File:VZ-Krasarang Wilds.jpg|VZ-Krasarang Wilds.jpg]]) exists as a file redirect to [[:File:WorldMap-Krasarang.jpg|WorldMap-Krasarang.jpg]]. Since Krasarang has an alternate phase map ([[:File:WorldMap-Krasarang_Terrain1.jpg|WorldMap-Krasarang_Terrain1.jpg]]), the VZ-map redirecting to it would be [[:File:VZ-Krasarang Wilds-t1.jpg|VZ-Krasarang Wilds-t1.jpg]].

Maps with older versions of itself may still be useful for content that was removed, especially for ''[[World of Warcraft: Classic]]''. The [[Eastern Kingdoms]] map from [[Vanilla]], [[:File:VZ-Eastern Kingdoms-old.jpg|VZ-Eastern Kingdoms-old.jpg]], exists as a file redirect to [[:File:WorldMap-Azeroth-vanilla.jpg|WorldMap-Azeroth-vanilla.jpg]]. The [[:File:VZ-Eastern Kingdoms-old1.jpg|VZ-Eastern Kingdoms-old1.jpg]] ([[TBC]]) exists as a file redirect to [[:File:WorldMap-Azeroth-tbc.jpg|WorldMap-Azeroth-tbc.jpg]]. The [[:File:VZ-Eastern Kingdoms-old3.jpg|VZ-Eastern Kingdoms-old3.jpg]] ([[Cata]]) exists as a file redirect to [[:File:WorldMap-Azeroth.jpg|WorldMap-Azeroth.jpg]].
