Before adding this template, consider searching for an archived copy of the linked page (such as through the [http://web.archive.org/ Wayback Machine]), or in the case of very unimportant external links, simply deleting them.

If the URL has an equals sign ( = ), replace it with <code><nowiki>{{=}}</nowiki></code>.
